AAA - Oklahoma City 5 Omaha 2
Brett Oberholtzer (4-4, 4.92) allowed just one run on three hits and fanned seven in six solid innings as the RedHawks (33-26) defeated the Storm Chasers 5-2. Jonathan Villar had 2 hits, stole 2 bases and drove in 2 runs, and Brandon Laird was 2 for 4 with a double, a walk and an rbi to lead the offense while Rhiner Cruz got the final four outs to earn his first save.
AA - Corpus Christi 5 Midland 0
David Martinez improved to 9-0 as he and Mike Foltynewicz combined on a 2-hit shutout as the Hooks (37-23) defeated the RockHounds 5-0. The Hooks made the most of their 4 hits going 3 for 7 with runners in scoring position. Jose Martinez went 1 for 4 and drove in two and George Springer, Enrique Hernandez and Jiovanni Mier all had rbis. Folty lowered his AA ERA to 1.08 with 4 scoreless innings and earned his third save. Justin Maxwell went 0 for 3, drew a walk, and fanned 3 times. He's yet to record a hit thus far on his rehab going 0 for 10 in 3 games. Jonathan Meyer went 1 for 2 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Advanced A - San Jose 8 Lancaster 4
Delino DeShields went 3 for 5 with a pair of rbis, while Nolan Fontana and Matt Duffy each had 2 hits of their own, but the JetHawks (35-26) went just 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position in an 8-4 loss to the Giants. Chris Epps scored a pair of runs and hit his 15th double of the season and Luis Cruz tossed 4 scoreless innings while fanning 5 in a losing effort.
Low A - Quad Cities 6 Cedar Rapids 1
Lance McCullers won his third straight decision with 4 no-hit innings lowering his ERA to 1.57 as Quad Cities (34-25) defeated Cedar Rapids 6-1. Carlos Correa outplayed Byron Buxton once again going 2 for 5 with a double, an rbi and a pair of runs while Buxton went 0 for 4. Jordan Scott added a triple and a pair of rbis while Mitchell Lambson and John Neely eached tossed scoreless innings in relief.
DSL - DSL Astros 6 DSL Royals 4
The Astros (3-3) overcame 6 errors and rode a 6-run 4th inning to a 6-4 win over the Royals. Brian Pena and Victor Tavarez each had 2 hits for the Astros and Elieser Hernandez tossed 5 innings without allowing an earned run to improve to 1-0 on the year. Harold Arauz pitched the final inning and a third to earn his 2nd save of the season.

Down on the Farm - 5/28/13
AAA - Oklahoma City 5 Omaha 2
Jarred Cosart picked up his 5th win of the year despite walking 7 in 5 innings of work as the RedHawks (29-23) knocked off the Storm Chasers 5-2. Fernando Martinez tripled in two runs in the first and added an rbi groundout in the second to lead the offense while Brett Wallace and Marc Krauss each added two hits. Jason Stoffel retired all 9 hitters he faced in 3 solid innings of relief work as he lowered his ERA to 1.65 in 12 AAA appearances. In 16 1/3 AAA innings, Stoffel has allowed just 7 hits and is holding opponents to a .127 batting average. Jose Valdez pitched a scoreless 9th for his 11th save.

Michael Burgess homered for the 5th time in 8 games and Ben Orloff and Rene Garcia each had a pair of rbis as the Hooks (31-20) helped Mike Foltynewicz earn his first AA win. Folty fanned 6 in his 4 innings of work and even though he only allowed 1 run, his ERA jumped to a whopping 1.08.

Preston Tucker homered and drove in 6 runs and Brady Rodgers improved to 4-1 with 5 shutout innings as the JetHawks (31-20) roughed up the Quakes 10-2. Andrew Aplin had a pair of hits and scored 3 runs and Tyler Heineman added a 2-run homer as Lancaster scored the game's first 10 runs. Chris Devenski worked the final four innings and earned his first save of the season.

The Astros prospect, fresh off his 50 game suspension, homered in his first at bat and added a single and a walk as the River Bandits (28-23) defeated the Cougars 7-5 in a rain-shortened affair. Carlos Correa added two hits and three rbis and Lance McCullers earned his first win of the season by striking out the side in one inning of work. McCullers ERA on the season is now 1.90.

Down on the Farm - 5/24/13
AAA - Iowa 5 Oklahoma City 4
Brad Peacock struck out 8 in 5 2/3 innings, but allowed 5 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks as the RedHawks (27-20) fell to the Cubs 5-4. Jonathan Villar and Brandon Laird each had solo home runs and Marc Krauss reached base three times (single, 2 walks) to supply to RedHawks offense. Josh Zeid and Alex Sogard combined to throw 2 1/3 scoreless innings out of the pen. Sogard has yet to allow a run since his promotion to AAA spanning 5 innings. He's allowed just 1 hit, but has issued 5 walks. His ERA on the year between AA and AAA is now 0.51.
AA - Corpus Christi 2 Northwest Arkansas 0
Mike Foltynewicz pitched 5 no-hit innings, and David Martinez only allowed a lead off single in the 6th as the Hooks (28-19) completely neutralized the Naturals, winning 2-0 on a combined 1-hitter. Folty now owns a 0.86 ERA in 21 AA innings and the Texas League is batting just .145 against him. Martinez, meanwhile, is no slouch either improving to 8-0 and lowering his ERA on the year to 1.84. Martinez needs just one win to tie his career high set in 2012 with Lancaster. The Hooks got their offense from Rene Garcia (2/4 with a double and an rbi) and Jonathan Meyer (1/4 with an rbi). George Springer drew a pair of walks in 4 trips and Max Stassi extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his 6th double of the season.
Advanced A - Lancaster 12 Inland Empire 4
The JetHawks (27-20) jumped out to an 8-1 lead through three innings and cruised to a 12-4 win over the 66ers. Andrew Aplin led the offense by going 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 runs batted in. He leads all Astros minor leaguers with 42 rbis this season. Tyler Heineman, Brandon Meredith and Joe Sclafani all had 3 hits in the game and Preston Tucker added his 7th home run of the year. Chris Devenski started and improved to 4-2 on the year despite his 6.99 ERA and Brady Rodgers earned his first save of the season with 4 scoreless innings of relief in which he allowed 2 hits and fanned 3.

Pinch-runner Teoscar Hernandez scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the bottom of the 8th as the River Bandits (24-22) edged out the Timber Rattlers, 4-3. Carlos Correa was 2 for 4 with 2 rbis, a triple, a stolen base and a run to lead the Bandits offense. Rio Ruiz added an rbi. Lance McCullers turned in another solid outing allowing just 2 earned runs in 5 innings of work, but despite his 1.94 ERA, he remains winless in 11 appearances including 7 starts. Daniel Minor pitched 4 scoreless innings in relief of McCullers to earn the win. He allowed just 2 singles and fanned 5 while not walking a batter.

Brad Peacock allowed just 1 earned run in 5 innings of work earning his first win as a member of the RedHawks (25-17) despite once again being plagued by a high pitch count. Peacock needed 96 pitches to get through hits 5 innings and finished the night with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Fernando Martinez and Jason Jaramillo each had a pair of runs batted in and Che-Hsuan Lin added 2 singles, 2 runs and a steal. Austin Wates singled to extend his hitting streak to 6 games.

DeShields (2/5), Joe Sclafani (2/3), Duffy (3/5), Heineman (2/3) and Chris Epps (2/3) all had multi-hit games in a losing effort. Brady Rodgers started the game and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings of work.

Lance McCullers' tough luck continues as he once again wound up the losing pitcher despite allowing just 1 earned run in 4 innings of work in the River Bandits (23-19) 3-2 loss. McCullers is now 0-4 on the year with an ERA of 1.72. Carlos Correa had 2 more hits and a stolen base as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games. He's batting .410 (16/39) during that stretch. Jesse Wierzbicki and Austin Elkins each had 2 hits in the loss.

AA - Corpus Christi 10 San Antonio 8
David Martinez wasn't at his best allowing three runs in four innings of relief, but the offense made sure it was good enough to give him his sixth win of the year. Jonathan Meyer homered and drove in four runs, and both Ben Orloff and Rene Garcia drove home a pair as the Hooks (23-16) had 15 hits in a 10-8 win. Mike Foltynewicz started and lasted just 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs while walking three and fanning four.
Advanced A - Visalia 5 Lancaster 2
Lancaster (23-16) managed just 5 hits and couldn't overcome an early 4-0 deficit in what ended up being a 5-2 loss. Telvin Nash was one of the few bright spots on offense doubling and drawing two walks in four trips. Chris Devenski started the game for the JetHawks and allowed 4 runs in 4 innings to fall to 3-2 on the year.

The top three hitters in the River Bandits lineup (Teoscar Hernandez, Carlos Correa and Miles Hamblin) combined to go 9 for 12 with 5 runs, 5 rbis, 4 walks and 0 strikeouts as Quad Cities (22-16) defeated the Timber Rattlers 9-4. Correa finished the game 3 for 5 and has his average all the way back up to .266 thanks to a 6-game hitting streak. The River Bandits drew 10 walks and had 14 hits and overcame the loss of Lance McCullers Jr who left the game with tightness in his hip after 1 inning. Michael Dimock threw two scoreless innings in which he fanned 5 to improve to 5-0 on the year and Daniel Minor tossed 4 scoreless innings to earn his first save.

Week 6 in Review
Humber is out. Ankiel is out. F-Mart is back in AAA. Edgar Gonzalez is an Astro again... BUT, despite a 2-4 week, the boys showed a lot of fight and nearly swept a 3-game series with the Angels before a bullpen meltdown in the final game of the series. Hey, it's progress...

AAA - Salt Lake 6 Oklahoma City 4
The RedHawks (22-13) suffered a rare loss when their 9th inning rally came up short against the Bees. Trailing 6-1 entering the final frame, Che-Hsuan Lin clubbed a 3-run homer, his first of the year, and the RedHawks loaded the bases with two outs before Mitch Stetter got Brandon Laird to fly out to right to end the game. Lin drove in all 4 of the RedHawks runs and Austin Wates had 3 hits to pace OKC's 11-hit attack. Ross Seaton fell to 0-3 on the year while Eric Berger tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief.

Mike Foltynewicz followed Martinez with 4 solid innings allowing just an unearned run to earn the save. Folty has yet to allow an earned run in 9 innings of work since his promotion to AA. George Springer hit home run number 12 and Enrique Hernandez added a 2-run shot to pace the offense. Jonathan Meyer and Erik Castro each added a pair of rbis.

The JetHawks (21-15) rallied back from a 6-0 deficit and used a 7-run 8th inning to propel them to a 10-6 win over the Ports. The JetHawks scored a pair of runs on wild pitches, then tied the game on a bases loaded walk to Tyler Heineman. Matt Duffy followed that with the big blow, a grand slam, to put the JetHawks up for good. David Rollins (3-3, 3.99) tossed 4 shutout innings in relief allowing just 1 hit and fanning 4 to earn the win.
Low A - Peoria 6 Quad Cities 3 (Game 1)
Carlos Correa reached base 3 times, but it wasn't enough as the River Bandits (19-14) lost Game 1 of their doubleheader with Chiefs 6-3. Rio Ruiz was 2 for 2 with a walk and Jobduan Morales added a pair of hits as well to pace the offense. Michael Dimock pitched well in relief allowing just one run on one hit in 3 innings of work. Daniel Minor (2-1, 4.80) started and took the loss.

Terrell Joyce delivered a 2-out walkoff single to score Jordan Scott and Quad Cities (20-14) was able to salvage a split of their doubleheader with the Chiefs. The Bandits came one out away from winning in the top half of the 7th, but Mitchell Lambson surrendered a 2-out solo home run to Jacob Wilson. Lance McCullers remains winless on the year despite allowing just 1 run in 5 solid innings of work. McCullers' ERA on the year is 1.71. Ariel Ovando had a pair of rbis while Joyce and Austin Elkins combined for 4 of Quad Cities' 6 hits. Carlos Correa started at DH and was 1 for 3 with a walk to raise his average on the year up to .224.
The RedHawks (22-13) suffered a rare loss when their 9th inning rally came up short against the Bees. Trailing 6-1 entering the final frame, Che-Hsuan Lin clubbed a 3-run homer, his first of the year, and the RedHawks loaded the bases with two outs before Mitch Stetter got Brandon Laird to fly out to right to end the game. Lin drove in all 4 of the RedHawks runs and Austin Wates had 3 hits to pace OKC's 11-hit attack. Ross Seaton fell to 0-3 on the year while Eric Berger tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief.

Down on the Farm - 5/6/13
AAA - Iowa 6 Oklahoma City 1
Trevor Crowe, Jonathan Villar and Carlos Perez all had 2 hits, but the RedHawks (18-12) fell behind early, and never recovered losing to the Cubs 6-1. Ross Seaton's struggles in AAA continued as he allowed 4 runs in 5 innings of work to fall to 0-2 with a 10.42 ERA. Former Astro Brian Bogusevic continued his big series against the RedHawks reaching base 3 times and raising his average on the year to .419 (39/93). Another former Astro, Edwin Maysonet homered and drove in 3 runs for the Cubs.
AA - Corpus Christi 3 San Antonio 0
Mike Foltynewicz announced his presence in AA with authority striking on 9 in 5 shutout innings in which he allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk as the Hooks (19-12) defeated the Missions 3-0. Folty's relief, David Martinez (4-0), was equally impressive throwing 3 1/3 shutout innings to earn the win and lowering his ERA on the year to 0.87. George Springer hit his 11th homer of the season and Domingo Santana followed it up with his 4th to lead the offense.

The JetHawks (18-12) overcame an early 5-1 deficit and held on late to defeat the Mavericks 8-7. Jonas Dufek and Brady Rodgers combined to throw 5 scoreless innings out of the bullpen setting the stage for the comeback as the JetHawks banged out 15 hits, including 2 apiece from MP Cokinos, Matt Duffy, Preston Tucker, Tyler Heineman and Chris Epps in the win. Travis Ballew surrendered a 2-run homer in the 9th, but still earned his 5th save.

Jonathan Villar had a monster game for the RedHawks going 4 for 4 with 5 Rbis to lead Oklahoma City (17-10) to a 7th straight win. Jimmy Paredes added 3 hits of his own to raise his average to .376, and recently promoted Carlos Perez drove in a pair as the RedHawks erased an early 1-0 deficit with 9 unanswered runs. Asher Wojciechowski made his AAA debut by striking out 5 in 4 innings and allowed just 1 run. He was followed by C.J. Fick, Jason Stoffel, Josh Zeid and Jose Valdez who combined to throw 5 scoreless innings in relief.

Austin Wates had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 steals and J.D. Martinez added an rbi double for the Hooks.

Nolan Fontana and Preston Tucker led the offense with 2 hits apiece and Delino DeShields Jr. scored a pair of runs while closer Travis Ballew got the final 5 outs for his 4th save of the year.

Making his first appearance since his Major League debut last weekend with the Astros, Brett Oberholtzer earned his first win of the year going 5 innings and holding the Zephyrs to 2 runs on 6 hits. The bullpen took it from there as Kevin Chapman, Josh Zeid and Jose Valdez carried the RedHawks (13-10) through the final four innings and they held on for a 5-3 win. Valdez earned the save giving him an organization-high 6 so far in 2013. Jonathan Villar had 2 hits for the 8th time in 9 games and added his first home run of the season while Marc Krauss added rbi number 23 to lead the offense.
AA - Frisco 4 Corpus Christi 3
Asher Wojciechowski proved he's human after surrendering a 7th inning Grand Slam and the Hooks (13-10) fell 4-3 to the RoughRiders. Wojciechowski had allowed just 2 runs all year prior that swing of the bat. David Martinez started the game for the Hooks and didn't allow a run in 5 shutout innings. The 25 year old Venezuelan's ERA is now at 1.19 on the year. George Springer led the Hooks offense with a pair of doubles as he raised his average to .306.

The JetHawks (14-9) saw an early 4-0 lead evaporate in a hurry as the 66ers scored 12 times between the 4th and 7th innings. Matt Duffy continues to be a bright spot though as the third base prospect extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Duffy's only gone hitless in a game once this season. Andrew Aplin slugged a 3rd inning Grand Slam for the JetHawks and drove in 5. Zach Johnson added a pair of hits and his 10th double of the season.

Asher Wojciechowski was scored on for the first time this year raising his ERA to a whopping 0.78, but the Hooks (11-8) rallied late to defeat Midland 6-3. Jiovanni Mier delievered a 2-run single with 1 out in the top of the 7th to give Corprus Christi a 3-2 lead, and Carlos Perez slugged a 2-run homer in the 8th for insurance in the victory. David Martinez earned the win in relief allowing a run in 3 1/3 innings of work and Jason Stoffel workedo out of a jam in the 9th to earn his 4th save. Rene Garcia added 3 hits for the Hooks to raise his average on the season to .351

Jarred Cosart showed that pitching help is on the way as he held the Isotopes to 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings to improve to 2-0 on the season leading the RedHawks (9-7) to a 3-1 win. Marc Krauss had an rbi triple to give him 17 rbis on the season, and Trevor Crowe (.339) singled to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Wes Musick added 3 scoreless innings of relief and Jose Valdez pitched a perfect 9th with 2 strikeouts to earn his 4th save of the season.

Farm Report - 4/11/13
David Martinez and Asher Wojciechowski combined on a 3-hit shutout as the Hooks (6-1) defeated the Springfield Cardinals 5-0. Through 7 games the Hooks have allowed just 11 runs and have a team ERA of 1.57. Wojciechowski has been particularly impressive allowing just 2 hits in 9 scoreless innings of work. Austin Wates was 3 for 4 and a double away from the cycle to lead the offensive attack. Domingo Santana added his second home run of the season.
Advanced A - Lancaster 5 Modesto 1
Lancaster (6-1) continued its fast start to the 2013 season with a 5-1 win over Modesto behind the strong pitching of David Rollins and Tyson Perez. Rollins pitched around three errors and allowed just one unearned run to earn the win while Perez retired all 12 hitters he faced in 4 perfect innings of work to earn the save. Preston Tucker, Drew Muren and MP Cokinos all had two hits to lead the offense.
