Down on the Farm - 6/8/13

AA - Corpus Christi 5 San Antonio 1

Jake Buchanan continued his stranglehold on Texas League hitters with 4 more innings without allowing an earned run to lower his ERA to 0.80 in Corpus Christi's 5-1 win over the Missions. Domingo Santana and Rene Garcia each homered for the Hooks (38-23), but Justin Maxwell's struggles continue as he went 0 for 3 with a sacrifice fly and a strikeout. In four games with the Hooks, Maxwell is 0 for 13. Carlos Quevedo tossed 5 shutout innings to improve his record on the year to 2-4. Jonathan Meyer doubled to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

Advanced A - San Jose 7 Lancaster 0

The JetHawks (35-27) were held to just 5 hits as they were beaten up by the Giants once again by a score of 7-0. Andrew Aplin was one of the lone bright spots on offense going 2 for 4 with a stolen base. Jonas Dufek added 2 scoreless innings of relief while starter Aaron West (2-3, 5.62) was saddled with the loss.

Low A - Peoria 1 Quad Cities 0

Gerardo Sanchez's wild pitch in the 9th inning scored the winning run from third base as the Chiefs defeated the River Bandits (32-27) by a score of 1-0. AAA - Oklahoma City 8 Albuquerque 4

Jarred Cosart struggled with his control and failed to make it through 5 innings, but the RedHawks (32-24) still managed to defeat the Isotopes 8-4. Cosart walked 5, hit 2, and threw just 49 strikes out of 99 pitches as he ended up getting charged with 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings. The bullpen didn't fair much better walking 6 more, but they managed to toss 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball despite their wildness. Fernando Martinez led the offense with 3 rbis including a 2-run single to break a 4-4 tie, while Carlos Perez and Andrew Simunic each had 3 hits in the game. Jonathan Villar went 2 for 4 and stole his 17th base of the season.

Down on the Farm - 5/20/13

AAA - Fresno 10 Oklahoma City 3

Asher Wojciechowski finally got roughed up a bit surrendering 8 runs on 10 hits, including 3 home runs, as the RedHawks (25-18) lost to the Grizzlies 10-3. Philip Humber followed Wojo making his RedHawks debut and allowed 2 runs in his 2 innings of work. Sadly his 9.00 ERA is better than what he posted during his stint with the Astros (9.59). Fernando Martinez led the RedHawks offense by going 3 for 4 with a home run and a pair of rbis. Brandon Laird added two hits including a double.

AA - Midland 19 Corpus Christi 11

The Hooks (25-19) took an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the 8th, but the RockHounds scored 9 times off of 3 Hooks pitchers and won a wild, high scoring affair 19-11. Erik Castro, Michael Burgess and Zach Johnson all homered for the Hooks, and Castro and Burgess each had 3 rbis to lead the offense, but the Hooks made 4 errors, walked 9 hitters and allowed 17 hits. Down on the Farm - 5/16/13

AAA - Oklahoma City 7 Sacramento 2

Andrew Simunic's bases loaded bloop double in the top of the 7th put the RedHawks (24-15) ahead for good as they rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the River Cats 7-2. Brett Wallace added a pair of rbis, and Jonathan Villar and Austin Wates both added two hits as every RedHawk starter had a hit in the game. Relievers Alex Sogard, Josh Zeid, Rhiner Cruz and Eric Berger combined to throw 4 2/3 shutout innings to set up the late rally.

AA - San Antonio 6 Corpus Christi 2

Rene Garcia hit his 2nd home run of the season and Jiovanni Mier took another step closer to the Mendoza Line with a pair of doubles, but the Hooks (23-17) still fell short against the Missions, losing 6-2. Ruben Alaniz (0-5, 5.45) pitched well allowing just 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings while fanning 5, but the offense just couldn't get things going. Josh Fields made his first rehab appearance for Corpus Christi after appearing in two games for Quad Cities and threw another scoreless inning. Fields has now tossed 5 scoreless innings during his rehab.

Advanced A - Visalia 6 Lancaster 5

The Rawhide scored twice in the bottom of the 7th against Tyson Perez (1-2, 6.62) and edged out the JetHawks (23-17) in a back-and-forth affair, 6-5. Matt Duffy led the JetHawks offense with 3 hits and 3 rbi, and Joe Sclafani, Andrew Aplin and Tyler Heineman all had multi-hit games for Lancaster. Aplin, the JetHawks starting centerfielder, also picked up a pair of outfield assists. Theron Geith tossed two scoreless innings in relief to lower his ERA on the year to 1.29. After allowing two runs in his first appearance of the season, Geith has rattled off 11 straight scoreless appearances. Delino DeShields Jr went 0 for 5 and struck out 4 times.

Low A - Quad Cities 3 Wisconsin 1

Colton Cain worked 4 1/3 solid innings and Mike Hauschild tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief as the River Bandits (23-16) defeated the Timber Rattlers 3-1. The Bandits pushed 3 runs across in the 5th thanks to an error, a Carlos Correa rbi groundout and a Miles Hamblin single, and that was all the offense Quad Cities would need. Correa also added a single of his own to extend his hitting streak to 7 games and Ariel Ovando added a pair of hits to lead the offense. John Neely pitched a scoreless 9th for his 7th save.

Down on the Farm - 5/12/13

AAA - Salt Lake 9 Oklahoma City 3

Jarred Cosart was tremendous once again, but his quality start was wasted by the bullpen as the RedHawks (22-14) relievers surrendered 8 runs over the final 2 innings in a 9-3 loss to the Bees. Cosart allowed just a run on 2 hits in 6 innings of work lowering his AAA ERA to 2.08, but Kevin Chapman and Rhiner Cruz couldn't hold the lead. The RedHawks offense was limited to just 5 hits in the loss, but Marc Krauss did pick up his 27th rbi of the season.

AA - Frisco 5 Corpus Christi 2

Jiovanni Mier hit his 4th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as the RoughRiders defeated the Hooks (21-15) 5-2. Mier had two of the Hooks' 5 hits as with George Springer on the bench the offense lacked punch striking out 13 times. Ruben Alaniz fell to 0-4 on the season after allowing 4 runs in 5 innings.

Advanced A - Lancaster 2 Stockton 0

Kyle Hallock and Luis Cruz combined on a no-hitter as the JetHawks (22-15) defeated the Ports 2-0. Hallock, making his first appearance for Lancaster after getting sent down from AAA, went 5 innings, and was perfect with the exception of a Delino DeShields error. Cruz followed him up and walked 1 hitter in his 4 innings of work, and fanned 4. A Preston Tucker sacrifice fly and a Delino DeShields squeeze supplied all the offense as the JetHawks managed only 2 hits themselves.

Low A - Peoria 4 Quad Cities 2

Rio Ruiz hit a 2-run homer, but it wasn't enough for the River Bandits (20-15) as they came up short against the Chiefs, 4-2. Colton Cain suffered his 4th loss of the season in relief even though he allowed just 2 hits in 4 innings of work. Mike Hauschild started for the Bandits and turned in a solid effort allowing just 1 earned run in 5 inning of work. Jesse Wierzbicki had 2 of Quad Cities' 5 hits to lead the offense.

The RedHawks managed 9 hits of their own, but went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position. Robbie Grossman (2/5), Jake Elmore (3/5) and Jimmy Paredes (2/4 with a homer) led the offense in a losing effort. Grossman was called up to replace the injured Justin Maxwell after the game.

AA - Corpus Christi 7 Midland 6 (10 innings)

Ben Orloff's sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, and Pat Urckfitz struck out the side in the bottom half to close out a 7-6 win for the Hooks (10-8). George Springer was poised to be the hero after going 3 for 4 with a pair of homers and 3 runs scored, but closer Jason Stoffel couldn't protect a 2-run lead in the 9th forcing the game into extra innings. Hooks pitchers struck out 17 in 10 innings of work.

Advanced A - Lancaster 5 Lake Elsinore 4

Nolan Fontana had three hits and catcher MP Cokinos drove in two runs as the JetHawks (12-6) hung on for a 5-4 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. Brady Rodgers started and threw 5 solid innings allowing just two runs to earn his first win of the season, and Kenny Long made his 2013 debut with a perfect 9th to earn the save.

Low A - Wisconsin 9 Quad Cities 1

Wisconsin broke a 1-1 by scoring 5 times in the 6th off of reliever Colton Cain and went on to beat the River Bandits (11-6) by a score of 9-1. The big inning wasted a strong start by Mike Hauschild who allowed just one unearned run in 5 innings of work to lower his ERA on the year to 2.93. Chase Davidson hit his first home run of the season to provide the River Bandits only offense. Carlos Correa went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts lowering his average to .238.

AAA - Oklahoma City 5 Round Rock 3 (Game 1)

Travis Blackley made his first rehab appearance for the Astros retiring the first six hitters he faced before hitting the leadoff man in the third and coming out of the game. Shortstop Jonathan Villar set the tone for the offense as he continued to break out of his season long slump notching almost as many hits in this game (3) as he had in the previous 12 (5). After starting the season 2 for 34, Villar is 6 for his last 12. Che-Hsuan Lin added a pair of rbis and Marc Krauss had a pair of hits and his 14th rbi of the season. Jose Valdez got the final out for his third save of the season

AAA - Round Rock 8 Oklahoma City 4 (Game 2)

AA - Frisco 4 Corpus Christi 2 (17 innings)

The Hooks (7-6) lost a heartbreaker last night falling in 17 innings to the RoughRiders 4-2. Brett Nicholas led off the 9th with a solo home run off of Hooks closer Jason Stoffel to tie the game at 2 and from there it was a battle of the bullpens. Jorge De Leon led the Hooks pen with 4 scoreless innings of relief, but it wasn't enough as the RoughRiders got to Pat Urckfitz for two runs in the 17th. The Hooks went just 7 for 57 in the game. Rene Garcia was the only Corpus Christi player to get 2 hits and Enrique Hernandez homered for the second time this year.

Advanced A - Bakersfield 4 Lancaster 2

The Blaze scored 4 times in the second inning and the JetHawks (9-5) never recovered. Nolan Fontana, Andrew Aplin, and MP Cokinos all had 2 hits for Lancaster, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit. Brady Rodgers worked 4 scoreless innings of relief while starter Chris Devenski allowed 10 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings of work and took the loss.

Low A - Quad Cities 9 Kane County 8 (11 innings)

Quad Cities (9-3) blew a 5-0 lead, then rallied from an 8-5 deficit to beat the Kane City Cougars 9-8 in 11 innings. Farm Report - 4/12/13

Brett Oberholtzer was saddled with the loss as he was knocked out of the game after just 3 innings. George Springer was 2 for 4 with a pair of rbis and Ben Orloff added two hits, but the Hooks never got closer than 4-3. Matthew Heidenreich (1-1) allowed 4 runs in 2 innings of work and was saddled with the loss.

Advanced A - Modesto 4 Lancaster 1

The high-powered JetHawks (6-2) offense was limited to just 4 hits and a sacrifice fly as they dropped a low scoring affair to the Nuts 4-1. Luis Cruz, a 9th round pick back in 2008, was absolutely dominant for Lancaster in his first start of the season fanning 9 in just 4 2/3 innings. Cruz now has 15 strikeouts in just 8 2/3 innings this year. Aaron West (0-1) took the loss in relief.

Low A - Peoria 4 Quad Cities 1 (10 innings)

The Chiefs pushed across 3 runs in the top of the 10th with an assist from a Rio Ruiz error as the River Bandits (6-2) fell in extras by a score of 4-1.
