Down on the Farm

AA - Corpus Christi 3 Springfield 2

George Springer hit a two run home run, and Rene Garcia went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles as the Hooks kicked off the 2013 campaign with a 3-2 win over the Springfield Cardinals. Ross Seaton allowed 2 runs in 5 innings to earn the win and Jason Stoffel pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

High A - Lancaster 10 High Desert 9

Andrew Aplin scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th on a balk and Lancaster defeated the High Desert Mavericks 10-9. Shortstop Nolan Fontana reached base 5 times (single, homer, 2 walks, hit by pitch), Preston Tucker drove in 3 runs without the benefit of a hit, Tyler Heineman had 3 hits, Matt Duffy added a homer and Delino DeShields Jr. was 2 for 5 with a double and a triple as the JetHawks banged out 13 hits in their season opening win. Starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz was roughed up for 5 runs in just 2 2/3 innings though he did have 4 strikeouts. Blair Walters picked up the win in relief while Travis Ballew pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Low A - Quad Cities 7 Kane County 2

Carlos Correa doubled and drove in three runs as the Quad Cities jumped out to an early 6-run lead and never trailed in their season opener. Vincent Velasquez started and allowed just 2 runs in 5 innings to earn the win, and Joe Bircher tossed 4 scoreless innings in relief to earn the save. Catcher Roberto Pena added 2 hits and a pair of runs batted in.
